Dubai with kids from a Downtown apartment: a five-day plan that works

Families tell us the same thing after a week in Downtown: the apartment did more for the holiday than any attraction. A kitchen for early breakfasts, bedrooms for naps, a pool downstairs and the biggest playground in the city — The Dubai Mall — reachable on foot or by bridge. Here is the plan we give our guests.

Day 1 — arrive, swim, fountain

Our team meets you in the lobby at any hour, registers you with security and carries the luggage up. If you land early, leave the bags with us and have breakfast on the Boulevard. The afternoon is for the pool (the Act towers also have a children's pool) and a nap; at 6 PM walk to the fountain for the first show, dinner at Souk Al Bahar, bed early.

Day 2 — The Dubai Mall without the car

From Downtown Views you walk straight into the mall by the air-conditioned bridge; from the Opera District it is a 10–15 minute stroll. Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, KidZania, the ice rink, VR Park and the dinosaur in the Souk Dome fill a day; come home for lunch and a nap and go back for the evening fountain shows from the waterfront.

Day 3 — Burj Khalifa and the Opera District

Book "At the Top" for the morning slot (less queue, clearer air). Lunch at home, then Burj Park for the kids to run, and a family show at Dubai Opera if one is on — it is two minutes from the Grande Signature and Forte apartments.

Day 4 — beach or desert

Kite Beach and Jumeirah Public Beach are 15 minutes by car (free parking at the apartment makes a rental car easy). Or a desert safari: the operators pick up at the building entrance around 3 PM and bring you back by 9 PM; dune bashing is not for small children, but camel rides, sandboarding and dinner under the stars are.

Day 5 — water park or Dubai Frame, then the pool

Aquaventure on the Palm (30 minutes), Dubai Frame and Zabeel Park (10 minutes), or the Museum of the Future for older children (10 minutes). Finish at your own pool and let the children choose the last fountain show.

Why these apartments work for families

Beds for everyone — king, queen, double beds, bunk beds and sofa beds, so nobody sleeps on a camp bed; free baby cot and high chair; a washing machine; a full kitchen; two free parking spaces in the 4-bedroom apartments; and a team on WhatsApp at any hour if you need a pharmacy, a doctor or just an extra blanket. The 4-bedroom apartments in Act One, Act Two, Downtown Views and Forte sleep 10 to 14; the 2-bedroom Grande Signature residences sleep up to 10 with the sofa beds.
